Wood nymphs and sprites can sometimes be seen if you know where to look. They are sometimes photographed as ghostly orbs. They can be mistaken for malevolent creatures if you do not know what to look for. Paranormal is a general term (coined c. 1915–1920) used to define experiences that can not readily be explained by "the range of normal experience or scientific explanation." A paranormal phenomenon is different from hypothetical concepts such as dark matter and dark energy. Unlike paranormal phenomena, these hypothetical concepts are based on empirical observations and experimental data gained through the scientific method. Popular culture and folklore often make reference to paranormal phenomena subjects. Scientific evidence does not support the existence of paranormal phenomena. Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a neologism for a perceptual phenomenon characterized as a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli. The nature and classification of the ASMR phenomenon is controversial, with a considerable cult following and strong anecdotal evidence to support the phenomenon but little or no scientific explanation or verified data.
