Rare Disease Diagnostic Examination (Palpation, Eye Chart, Range of Movement Testing) 🩺 Medical ASMR
2 weeks ago
Well, it's a condition/disorder as opposed to one disease (just not as snappy for a title)—we're going to be assessing you for some odd symptoms: a lot of joint pain that doesn't go away with usual interventions and isn't associated with injury. Our usual suspects don't quite fit the bill, so what else could it be? We'll take a look also at your skin, eyes, jaw, spine, and medical history to determine what's going on.
NOTE! I do actually have Ehlers-Danlos, as does the rest of my family, so this video is a combo of what I've been told about it by medical professionals and research (which is in the “Attributions” section below the trigger list). Because it is a condition that has its fingers in a lot of pies and has a ton of presentations, not everything is applicable to every case of EDS. I'm focusing mostly on hEDS (hypermobile type) because that's what I'm most familiar with! Funnily enough, someone I met with EDS clocked me a decade before I got diagnosed when they saw that I have blue sclerae.
I also chat about off-label naltrexone for comorbidities of EDS—I'm on 25mg for ME/CFS and chronic pain, which is not the normal dose of 5mg low dose naltrexone that is usually recommended and the 25mg worked wonders for me compared to 5 mg LDS. My PCP and I think it might be because of the EDS influencing drug metabolism, but hey, whatever works!
